SPLOST has become the golden goose for politicians to increase taxes.. Any excuse fo cover their inability to operate financially is, "We need more income to operate and SPLOST is the best thing to bring in that money". Every one of these SPLOST schemes
is simply a tax increase with no guarantee that the money will be spent on its original purpose.
SPLOST is not a one time tax increase, it is a never ending tool for politicians to raise
I read and enjoy your articles, and don't give a damn where you live. You are an asset to Albany, whether you live there or not.
Why all this anti Murfee and anti DCSS stuff? This is just routine for Albenny and Dirty County leadership. Your skin tone is the only thing that is acceptable in this ghetto.
The disfunctional school board elected to go to the bottom of the barrel to select Murfree because he was the one who best suited their ignorant standards, and their act made him feel like the king who could do no wrong. That decision has kept citizens and businesses away from moving to Albany and Dirty County and has also caused many to move out. That trend will continue until the place becomes one large ghetto. It might already be too late.
This action is going to prolong the wait for a decent school board to be activated.
It will also take the local citizens out of the process this time. Miller County only has one school so the practice of electing members without their being elected on a county wide vote must stop.
Anything that causes me to pay more tax is a tax increase. It's as simple as that. I feel that I am already over taxed, so I plan to vote no. After this 10 year period to pay for these "improvements" we will face another one percent SPLOST tax to pay for the repair or improvements to this one, or an extension of this one percent for another ten years. That's the history of SPLOST.
Since the birth of SPLOST it has been projected by politicians as the only way to provide the money for every project they are interested in. This is their ploy to be able to say, "We didn't raise your taxes, You voted to raise your taxes yourself".
They always keep the increase at one percent because they know that they have another SPLOST waiting in the wings and one percent each time is much easier to sell than adding three or four percent at one time to cover them all. There is no end to this way of getting more money to waste without taking any blame for raising everybody's taxes.
Another example of the school board having its interest in money and changes rather than any sensible effort to educate the kids. Their projections do not match the outcome of their actions.
Normally the highest bidder at an auction gets what is being sold. So, why is this article newsworthy?
This is just another example of Albany failing at everything. Maybe the baseball season would take too much time away from the gang activity the students enjoy so much.
