If they were TRULY concerned with economic development they would NOT support Phoebe's monopoly. Phoebe keeps health care costs in this community high which impedes insurance coverage and limits jobs! What they actually saying is Phoebe is too big for them to piss off.

A group of us try to do this on a regular basis (Thursdays) for Downtown businesses. Easy for anyone to have this VERY positive experience - get a group of friends together, commit to spending at least $2 & show up. The business appreciates it, you get to spend some time with friends & support your community. Win-win.

there it is again that ridiculous untruth about going to downtown after dark. downtown is no more dangerous than any other part of the city after dark. I know I am downtown after dark frequently and have never been accosted, assaulted or anything else.

Nights@dtown has been going one for a year and a half with ABSOLUTELY no problems. No violence, no drugs, no crime, just good times. You just can't stand the idea that something good is happening downtown. And yeah i know this because i have been at nights@dtown most nights.

It WAS a small crowd considering what they expected and what they charged vendors.

there have been many events in Albany with no gang activity and amok teenagers, but the herald is not about to report the good news about Nights at D'Town - a monthly event with 300 people, artists and music and NO problems. Flint Fest had no issues adn as far as i know Nites on the Flint had no issues either.................

the crowd was just all right, the music was just all right. there's a lot of tweaking that has to happen to really make this successful for everyone.but shugart and the promoters made their money.

You know, I realize that the Squawk is a fact-free zone, but let me drop one on you anyway: the COUNTY funds the COUNTY Library & is virtually the only funding source. The Civil Rights Museum & the Riverquarium are asking the CITY to help them through some bad patches due to hard economic times. The Library will need PERMANENT solutions, the Civil Rights Museum & Riverquarium will hopefully be TEMPORARY. You're entitled to your own opinions but not to your own facts.

Just left the Pizza Shop in downtown at 9 pm. Lovely evening, lovely dinner. NO thugs in evidence! Nights at dtown FREE music and art event - NO thugs, NO crime. Thursday evening I will be downtown until 8 pm, and again there will be no problem. get over yourselves.

I go to Nights at dtown regularly and it rocks! I go regularly to evening events at the RiverQuarium. Never ever have an issue after dark downtown.
