Sometimes a picture says it all ...

It's said that a picture is worth a thousand words ... In this case the cliche seems to apply.

I took this picture earlier this morning in front of the Dougherty County School Administration building. The American flag was proudly waving - albeit upside down. After I took the shot I went inside the building and told the police officer in the lobby that they had a problem with the flag. He said it would be corrected immediately.

I watched from across the street as staff came out, lowered the flag and allowed it to drag across the ground as they turned it union side up. It's obvious some folks at the DCSS need some instruction in the proper handling and display of the American flag

As a side note: the flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress ...

Yep. That says it all.

Instruction in proper flag etiquette would be a start, but the problem is much deeper than "instruction" will ever remedy. We have removed from our schools, and then forgotten from where our freedom and prosperity came. We have forgotten that our inalienable came from God.

This particular problem is very symbolic of the deep problems in our schools and society. Not only do we not teach the values of our founding fathers, but the schools, teachers, and administrators many times are the ones warring against the very values that made the United States great.

I agree, Herb. I hope MCLB has seen this and that everyone Marine out there will call the DCSS and give them heck for what they did. You don't treat Old Glory like that. I think Dr. Murfree owes us an apology for letting his staff do that and then letting it drag on the ground. A requirement to work for DCSS must be that you have to have an IQ of 10 or less to work there. School Board and Dr. Murfree: All of you owe us an apology and DON'T let it happen again. Keep at 'em, Terry Lewis.

This is so typical of people who have no respect for anyone other than themselves and their pocketbooks and who scratches their backs. I am so sick and tired of the Dougherty County so called School System. I will not pay not one more year of property taxes that go to this school system. I am so OUT OF HERE!!! I have had my fill of these people this time over the last three stinking days. They are liars and cheaters and might hold documents that say they are educated but their actions speak louder than that paper. The entire system needs to be taken over by the Georgia Department of Education. There's several words for people like this but I will spare your ears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So instead of taking a moment to help the man hang the flag correctly, you snap a pix and run to the computer? Ready to attack the DCSS with whatever you can find. Where is the love and concern for your fellow man here? I doubt any of you are perfect and at any given time have made a "mistake". @OSheet - delta is ready when you are. You don't know jack!

Your right I don't know 'jack'. lol and btw I do love flying delta. Is that the best you can do? I do know that this school system is destroying the lives of children continuously. I'm sorry that you are so blind to the facts that have been in the newspaper and WALB for years. You are in denial Loco ... oh I mean Local. Yes, the public needs to have their eyes on this school system, they have proven they are not competent in more ways than one. You want to talk about 'where is the love' ... this is something that is earned. They are not a loving bunch over there.

@OSheet - so glad you love flying delta, use your sky miles and take a hike. The school system still has some very qualified teachers and administrators. As in most cases the bad apples get all the attention. Love is given freely without strings attached, it is not earned. Where are you from?

Actually, to be a certified teacher in the state of Georgia and be employed in any school system would require an IQ above 10. There are many wonderful and competent employees in this system so please don't lump everyone together. Also, I would have cringed if I had seen such a lack of respect for the flag. My father was a military veteran. I know proper flag etiquette. Do not assume that the actions of a few represent the whole system.
