I have been a southwest Georgian for three months now, and I continue to be struck by the kindness and genuineness of the people here. My wife, Tracy, and I appreciate the warm welcome we have received in this community, which immediately felt like home to us.

I am also constantly impressed with the care provided by the Phoebe Family. I have worked in large for-profit medical centers in some of the largest cities in this country, and the scope of services, level of technology and degree of compassionate care available to Phoebe patients rivals or exceeds what is provided at those big-city institutions.

The special care that the Phoebe Family and our dedicated medical staff provides each and every day in Albany, Americus, Sylvester and throughout Southwest Georgia is clearly demonstrated by the compassion, dedication and empathy extended to the patients and families we serve.

Phoebe has many best practices, but we also have areas of opportunity to ensure that all patients and community members receive outstanding care in a safe and healing environment that exceeds their expectations. Our successes have instilled in us a culture of continuous improvement and a desire always to strive for the best — our community deserves that.

As part of that commitment, we are embarking on an important initiative to refresh Phoebe’s vision, goals and strategies. By listening to our employees, physicians, patients and community leaders over the next few months, we will develop a detailed plan of how best to move Phoebe forward and how best to meet the needs of those we serve.

I will share the results of that work and our plans for the future with you soon, and I look forward to working with and for the people of southwest Georgia to improve the overall health of our region and to make the delivery of health care here the best it can be.

Scott Steiner is President/CEO of Phoebe Putney Health system and Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
