NCAA Football: Cincinnati at Memphis

Memphis Tigers head coach Mike Norvell holds up the American Athletic Conference West Division Champion trophy after the game against the Cincinnati Bearcats at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. Tigers won 34-24.

Florida State has zeroed in on Memphis’ Mike Norvell to be its next football coach, according to multiple reports.

Norvell, 38, will coach the Tigers in Saturday’s AAC championship game against Cincinnati. He could be announced as the Seminoles’ coach as soon as Sunday, according to a report by ESPN.com.

Norvell is 37-15 with three AAC West championships in four seasons at Memphis, including 11-1 this year. He was previously offensive coordinator at Pittsburgh and Arizona State.

Florida State fired Willie Taggart on Nov. 2 after less than two seasons. Interim coach Odell Haggins has directed the Seminoles to a 2-1 record, with a bowl game still to come.
