ALBANY — The Columbus State Cougars batted around and scored five runs on five hits in the first inning to beat Albany State 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Albany State West. The Columbus State victory ended the Golden Rams’ 13-game winning streak.

The Cougars teed off on Albany State freshman Sebastian Griffeth, who came to ASU from Calvary Christian of Columbus. The freshman right-hander gave up five hits and five earned runs in one-third of an inning. He was relieved by Andrew McBride, but the Golden Rams used nine pitchers in all during the game.

Albany State’s only run of the game came in the first inning. Former Lee County star Jonathan Logsdon smacked a double to the left field fence. He advanced to third on a ground out by Zane Ross and then scored on a balk.

Albany State had six hits against Columbus State’s Ryan Suppa, who pitched a complete game for the Cougars.

The Golden Rams will return to SIAC action with a weekend series against Morehouse College of Atlanta. Friday’s game begins at 5 p.m. and Saturday’s first game begins at noon at ASU West.
