ALBANY – The Albany State Golden Rams (25-9, 22-2) will open a three-game series with SIAC rival Benedict College (12-16, 10-14) Saturday afternoon at Albany State West and are looking to extend their lead before heading to second-place Savannah State next weekend.

“We are excited to get out and compete this weekend,” said Albany State head coach Scott Hemmings. “Saturday is senior day and we want to send this senior class out on a winning note. I could not be any happier with this senior class as they have set the standard very high for our future classes,” he said. “We are expecting a very talented and athletic Benedict team coming in who is battling for a tournament spot so we need to be ready. It should be great weather and I would like to see us play a complete series in all phases.”

Lefty Brady Davis, a junior from Brunswick, will start game one on the mound in Saturday’s first game. Last time out he pitched five innings and gave up one run on four hits. Former Worth County star and preseason All-American Jeremiah Reddell is scheduled to start game two on the mound. During his last turn on the mound, Reddell pitched five innings and allowed three hits and three runs.

Sunday’s start goes to Landon Keifer who pitched four innings against Morehouse last weekend and allowed just one hit and one run.

The Golden Rams will look to bounce back after they dropped a 7-2 decision to Georgia College and State University of Milledgeville on Wednesday in Albany.

The Bobcats had an early 2-0 lead before the Rams tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Leadoff batter Jonathan Logsdon started the inning with a single to left then scored the first run when Bradley Smith smacked a double to right field. The Bobcats changed pitchers, but Hill Corley followed with a single before Austin Roberts hit a single to center to score the second run.

The tie didn’t last long, however, as Georgia College added two runs in the seventh and three more in the ninth to take the win.

The Rams used 10 pitchers in the game with starter Calvin Baker being the only pitcher with two full innings of work. Tyler Bullock took the loss on the mound by allowing two hits and two runs in that seventh inning.
