The Top Five high school basketball performances in Albany this week

The Top Five high school basketball performances from the week in Albany:

1) Tony Montgomery of Carver of Columbus scored 42 points Thursday night as he tried to rally his team past Dougherty in the semi-finals of the Region 1-AAA tournament at Monroe. Dougherty held on for an 86-78 win.

2) Dougherty All-State guard Jatiana Chambers scored 31 points, grabbed eight rebounds and took seven steals in a 61-47 loss to Monroe in the semi-finals of the Region 1-AAA tournament,

3) Kie’Andria Acree of Monroe scored 27 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, handed out eight assists, took five steals, and blocked four shots to lead her team to a 61-47 win over Dougherty in the semi-finals of the Region 1-AAA tournament. Acree also earned the “Player of the Game” award in Friday night’s loss to Carver.

4) Joi Hubbard of Deerfield-Windsor scored 26 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, to lead the Lady Knights to a 56-46 win over Terrell Academy and claim back-to-back region championships at Georgia Southwestern in Americus.

5) Jai’on Burns of Dougherty and both Justin Burns and Lorenzo Still of Monroe scored 22 points each in Monroe’s 70-65 double overtime loss to Dougherty in the region championship game Friday night. Jai’on Burns and Lorenzo Still earned “Player of the Game” awards in the region championship game.
