Ballet Theatre South to present ‘Alice in Wonderland’
Shows are scheduled Dec. 1-3 at the Albany Municipal Audtorium
From Staff Reports
ALBANY — Alice may have been bewildered by the antics of the March Hare and Cheshire Cat, but kids and grownups are sure to like them all when Ballet Theatre South brings “Alice in Wonderland” to the stage of the Albany Municipal Audtorium.
The ballet company’s annual holiday show is set for Dec. 1-3.
The dancers will bring to life Lewis Carroll’s timeless tale of lost logic, riddles and ridiculousness, considered a masterpiece of literary nonsense. The story involves a bored Alice who drops through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world of delightful and befuddling creatures such as the Mad Hatter, Jabberwocky and the shrill Queen of Hearts, who’s always screeching, “Off with their heads!”
Ballet Theatre South officials say their goal is to bring the beauty and discipline of classic dance each Christmas to Southwest Georgia. The professional-quality productions allow local dance students of diverse backgrounds to learn classical dance techniques from master teachers, then perform with professional dancers on the stage of the Albany Municipal Auditorium.
Since 1980, audiences have enjoyed choreographed productions including “The Nutcracker,” “Snow White,” “Peter Pan” and “Coppelia.”
As part of its educational vision, the ballet troupe also will perform special school shows on Nov. 30 for hundreds of local school students who otherwise would be unable to attend a professional production.
Showtimes for “Alice in Wonderland” are 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 and 2:30 p.m. Dec. 2-3. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at the door or by calling (229) 364-7688. For more information, visit www.ballettheatresouth.org.
