AMERICUS — The etched engraving says it all: “It is not how these individuals died that made them heroes. It is how they lived.”

With that as a backdrop, the Americus Police Department, Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia Southwestern State University Police Department will host a public safety memorial dedication ceremony Dec. 7 at the Russell B. Thomas Safety Building.

The ceremony will be held in honor of public servants who gave their lives protecting and serving citizens of Americus and Sumter County.

The public safety building is located at 119 S. Lee St. in Americus. The ceremony starts at noon.
