LEESBURG — Michael McNeal, owner of Eggs Up Grill in Albany, recently supplied the Lee County School System with nine LifeVac devices so that one will be available in each of the school system’s cafeterias.
LifeVac is a non-invasive choking rescue device that mechanically provides suction for individuals with an airway obstruction emergency. Each kit comes with adult and pediatric mouth pieces and laminated instructions for correct use.
McNeal highlighted the significance of the donation by noting how he’d seen life-threatening scenarios play out in a restaurant setting. He said he wanted to do something to help prevent the same scenario playing out in a school setting.
“The product’s effective design allows someone in a moment of panic and stress to use LifeVac to easily dislodge an obstruction from the airway (of a person who is choking),” McNeal said.
Regina Dunn, LCSS director of Food Services, accepted the donation.
“I feel very blessed to have such great area business partners who invest in our schools and, specifically, our children,” Dunn, who will train use of and distribute devices to school system food services managers this week, said.
