WASHINGTON — Congressman Sanford D. Bishop Jr., D-Ga., received the United Steelworkers’ 2023 Paul Wellstone Award, which is presented annually by the USW to elected officials and citizens for their steadfast support of organized labor.

“It is an honor to receive this award, but there is so much we still must accomplish for America’s workers,” Bishop said in a news release. “We must continue our fight for paid family and medical leave and child care, to protect Medicare and Medicaid, to enforce our trade laws, and to raise the minimum wage.

“If we stand together, there is no limit to what we can achieve on behalf of working men and women.”

USW’s Wellstone Award is named for the late Sen. Paul Wellstone of Minnesota. He was an unwavering champion of organized labor who died tragically in a plane crash in 2002. Wellstone fought for access to quality health care, protections for workers’ pensions, retirement security, and better wages for working men and women.
