ALBANY — Albany recording studios Ga-fla Parkway and Platinum Sound are teaming up to reward a top musical act with a CD, music video and other prizes during a Thursday competition.

“It’s a nice event,” said Mario Meadows, music producer and owner of Platinum Sound. “For the winner, we’re going to produce a seven-song EP, music video (with) 1,000 CD duplicates and play on the (Ga-fla) radio station.”

Among the judges scheduled to make the decision are Rico Brooks, Prince Howard, DJ Tremayne and D.J. Tray, giving local acts exposure to players in the industry.

“This is something we’re going to be doing quarterly,” Meadows said of the competition. “We’re trying to get bigger prizes, more bigger-name judges.”

The 229 United Artist Showcase kicks off at 6 p.m. Thursday at the SandTrap Club & Lounge, 1412 Radium Springs Road. Admission is $10.
