ALBANY – The Albany Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect in a child molestation case who was arrested after the investigation of a report received by police in Moultrie.

Sterling Maurice Murphy Sr., 31, has been charged with rape and aggravated child molestation.

The Moultrie Police Department became involved after it received a report of a girl who was having mental issues. During an interview, the girl told officers that one of her “uncles,” whom she identified as Murphy, had touched her genitals when she was 7 or 8 years old.

During an interview with the Albany Police Department’s Family Protection Unit, Sterling confessed to touching the girl inappropriately, police said. He also told officers that he had sent sexually explicit images to her.
