Google live stream educates small businesses on online advertising

ALBANY — As part of Small Business Week, the University of Georgia helped equip small businesses in the Albany area with the resources to capitalize on online advertising.
The UGA Small Business Development Center in Albany and the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce partnered Wednesday to present a Google Livestream luncheon at the Albany Welcome Center.
Members of the Google team gave tips and best practices on boosting an online presence via Google ads. Without a digital presence, officials with the company said, there is serious risk of eliminating a customer base.
Business owners said they recognize this business reality, and noted it is simply a matter of implementing it and transforming it into an effective marketing strategy ideal for large and small businesses.
“It’s to educate them on a specific topic and let them know who to reach out to,” said Heather Sharpe, business consultant for the UGA Small Business Development Center. “Most people are looking online for business information, but business owners don’t know how to get that information online.
“Across multiple generations, that is where people are looking for information.”
The presentation included an overview of how ads work on Google searches, how ads appear in search results, Google Help Center, framing business goals and how to build a campaign based on those goals — all to highlight the information customers need to know, in turn driving sales.
The session hosted at the Albany Welcome Center was one of more than 200 taking part during a livestream.
“This has been a great partnership we have enjoyed,” Chamber CEO Barbara Rivera Holmes said of the relationship with the UGA center.
The week’s events also include one in which Leadership Albany and the chamber is partnering for Leadercast Live at The Church at the Groves in Leesburg on Friday. The all-day simulcast will focus on leading healthy teams.
The week’s celebration has also included a joint proclamation signing by Mayor Dorothy Hubbard and Dougherty County Commission Chairman Chris Cohilas on Tuesday, followed by a small business and nonprofit awards ceremony later that day.
The week kicked off with the third annual “Women in Business” luncheon Monday.
