FEMA adds seven more SWGA counties to eligibility list
Latest additions bring total eligible counties to 13

ALBANY – Congressman Sanford D. Bishop Jr. welcomed Tuesday’s amendment to the major disaster declaration for Georgia that expands coverage for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Individual Assistance program to also include Crisp, Grady, Lee, Mitchell, Terrell, Thomas and Worth counties.
“I thank FEMA for recognizing the tremendous recovery needs of communities in southwest Georgia, which was truly devastated by Hurricane Michael,” Bishop said. “We are still in the early stages of the recovery process, but this assistance will go a long way toward helping communities rebuild and helping families return to a sense of normalcy.”
FEMA’s IAP provides federal resources for impacted individuals and households, including financial assistance for temporary housing, home repair and damage to essential household items. This assistance also covers disaster-related child care, medical and essential vehicle expenses.
After Tuesday’s amendment, the full list of counties covered by FEMA’s Individual Assistance program includes Baker, Crisp, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Lee, Miller, Mitchell, Terrell, Thomas, Seminole and Worth counties.
Individual assistance makes federal funding available to individuals and households, including grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the hurricane.
“I appreciate President Trump’s quick approval of our requests for federal assistance in the Georgia communities most heavily affected by Hurricane Michael,” Gov. Nathan Deal said. “Our partners at the federal level, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency, are working diligently alongside state and local officials to help our communities recover as quickly as possible. I appreciate both President Trump and Vice President Pence visiting Georgia this week to show their support and reiterate the federal government’s commitment to Georgia’s citizens during the response and recovery process.
“I’m also proud of the brave efforts of Georgia’s first responders, emergency management officials, law enforcement officers, medical professionals, recovery teams and others who are providing much-needed aid to residents of the impacted areas.”
