ALBANY — Radium Springs Elementary School’s robotics team won first place in the project award at the Columbus Super Regional Tournament FIRST LEGO league qualifier on Saturday. Held at Columbus State University, the FIRST LEGO league focuses on solving real-world problems such as food safety, recycling, energy and more using science, technology, engineering and mathematics concepts. Teams design, build and program a LEGO robot, and then compete on a themed table-top playing field. Radium’s robotics team is composed of nine fifth-grade students and coached by teachers Natasha Knighton and Timothy Hardwick. Radium competed against 11 other schools in the region.
