ALBANY – Southwest Georgia families could qualify for the Car Seat Mini-Grant program through collaborative efforts of the Southwest Health District and its partners.

The program, funded by the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Injury Prevention Program, aims to provide car seats and education to financially eligible families across several counties in the health district, including Dougherty County.

The Dougherty County Health Department, located at 1710 S. Slappey Blvd., offers the Car Seat Mini-Grant program to assist families in ensuring the safety of their children while traveling in motor vehicles.

Financially eligible families can make use of this program by contacting the Dougherty County Health Department at (229) 638-6424. Residents may call the number for more information or to determine eligibility.

The health district offers education on proper car seat installation and usage, conducts car seat inspections, and provides car seats and booster seats to financially eligible families. This initiative extends its reach to support more than 113 counties in Georgia, ensuring that families receive the necessary resources to secure their children safely in vehicles.

Southwest Georgia counties eligible for the mini-grant program for 2024 include Baker, Calhoun, Colquitt, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Lee, Miller, Mitchell, Seminole, Thomas and Worth.
