ALBANY — Dougherty High School senior defensive edge Maurice Davis announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he is now committed to the University of Louisville Cardinals of the ACC and head coach Jeff Brahm. Davis had committed to the University of Mississippi before the start of the football season but changed his mind.

“It was mainly what was going on with the transfer portal,” Davis said of his decision to switch. “Louisville was my second choice originally, so when the coach came down to visit me at home, I committed. I will be signing with Louisville Wednesday.”

Davis was named the defensive lineman of the year for Region 1-AAA last week in a meeting of region coaches.

A ceremony is planned for Wednesday, December 20th, at Dougherty for National Signing Day. Davis will sign with Louisville and five-star running back/quarterback Kameron Davis is expected to sign with Florida State. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

Both Maurice Davis and Kameron Davis are expected to enroll at their new schools in January
