Albany Tech promotes alumna LaTisha Williams to lead Lady Titans basketball program

Staff Reports

ALBANY — Albany Technical College didn’t have a women’s basketball program until Kenneth Williams arrived in 2009. Sixteen seasons, more than 200 wins, and countless success stories later, Williams is stepping away from the bench — and handing the reins to someone who knows the Lady Titans as well as anyone.

LaTisha Williams, an Albany/Newton native and former Albany Tech standout, has been named interim head coach for the 2025–26 season. She has been part of the Lady Titans’ coaching staff since 2017 and served as associate head coach last season.

“I am excited to lead this program and continue building on the success and culture we’ve established,” Williams said. “Our goal is to develop well-rounded student-athletes who succeed both in the classroom and on the court.”

Her promotion comes after Kenneth Williams guided Albany Tech to a record-breaking 20-9 season and earned Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Coach of the Year honors in what turned out to be his final campaign on the sideline. Under his leadership, the Lady Titans quickly became a nationally recognized program, sending dozens of players on to four-year schools while earning respect across the NJCAA.

“Coaching the Lady Titans has been one of the greatest honors of my career,” Kenneth Williams said. “As we continue to grow our athletic offerings, my focus is on building a strong student life foundation and creating more opportunities for students both on and off the court.”

Kenneth Williams will remain at Albany Tech in his role as Student Life and Athletic Director. LaTisha Williams, meanwhile, will take on a dual assignment as head coach and Wellness Center Coordinator, helping to expand health and fitness opportunities across campus.

Her promotion keeps the program in local hands while building on a foundation laid more than 15 years ago.
