Basketball Shorts: Big night in Edison: No. 7-ranked Albany Dougherty tops No.3-ranked Calhoun County

EDISON — Dougherty’s Kaleke Singletary-Jinks scored nine of his team-high 28 points in the fourth quarter to help the No. 7- ranked Dougherty Trojans edge No. 3-ranked Calhoun County 81-77 at Calhoun County High School in Edison.

The game was close the entire night but the Cougars took a slight lead into the final quarter of play before the Trojans outscored Calhoun County 26-19 in the final eight minutes for the win.

Singletary-Jinks led the Trojans with 28 points and Markelle Jones scored 16. Both Jai’on Burns and Juwuan Jinks, Jr. scored 12.

All-State guard Jasiyah Suber poured in 33 points to lead the Cougars and Kenari Harris put in 17.

The Trojans are now 7-2 on the season and the Cougars fell to 5-1. Dougherty will play McIntosh Academy next Tuesday night as part of the USave It Christmas Classic at Monroe High School while the Cougars play again Friday as Seminole County comes to Edison.

Dougherty (Girls) 68, Calhoun County 22

EDISON — The No. 9-ranked Dougherty Lady Trojans breezed to a 68-22 win over Calhoun County in Edison Tuesday night, led by All-State guard Jatiana Chambers who poured in 31 points, stole the ball ten times, and handed out seven assists.

The Lady Trojans also got 15 points from D’Asia Simmons while Grace Smith scored six points and pulled down 13 rebounds.

The win is Dougherty’s fourth in a row and improves the season record to 6-3. Dougherty will travel to Cairo on Saturday.

Sherwood Christian 58, Grace Christian 48

BAINBRIDGE — The Sherwood Christian Eagles came from behind Monday to win going away at Grace Christian Academy with a 58-48 final. The Cougars of Grace Christian took an early lead that lasted until 1:15 left in the game and the Eagles took over for the win.

Senior Alex Harris led the Eagles with 26 points with six steals. Caleb Kendrick scored 12 and Tripp Roberts scored eight with 11 rebounds and three steals. Will Hammond added five points and nine rebounds.

The Lady Eagles improved their record to 4-2 with a 41-28 win over the Lady Cougars.

Sherwood will play at home Thursday night against Baker County.

Westover 56, Tift County 50

ALBANY — The Westover Patriots ended their four-game losing streak Tuesday night by defeating Tift County at home in Albany.

Trevion Wheeler led the Patriots with 19 points, Gregory Williams scored 13, Jalen Holmes put in 10 and Jaxon Reese added seven for the winners.

The Patriots will host Valdosta Friday night in Albany.
