Basketball Shorts: Calhoun County Edison tops Mitchell County Camilla, Lee County over Sumter County Americus

CALHOUN COUNTY 71 MITCHELL COUNTY 59

EDISON — In a game played at Calhoun County High School, the No. 3-ranked Calhoun County Cougars defeated No. 5-ranked Mitchell County Saturday night 71-59 in a battle for supremacy in Region 1-A. The Cougars improved their season record to 5-0, while the Eagles lost for the first time this season and are now 4-1.

Jasiyah Suber led Calhoun County with 28 points, Dallas George scored 12 and Zechariah Canidate added 10.

David Campbell led the Eagles with 16 points and Landen Quimbley followed with 13.

Calhoun County will host Dougherty (6-2) Tuesday night in Edison while Mitchell County will travel to Early County (2-3).

LEE COUNTY 69 SUMTER COUNTY 29

LEESBURG — After a close game against Sumter County in Americus earlier this season, the No. 9-ranked Lee County Trojans dominated Saturday night in Leesburg, winning by 40 points — 69-29.

Josiah Parker led the Trojans with 19 points, Braden Moore put in nine points and Braylon Chaney added eight.

The Trojans will host Terrell County (5-1) next Saturday night in Leesburg.

DOUGHERTY Girls 63 HAPEVILLE CHARTER 52

ALBANY — The Dougherty Lady Trojans got 30 points from All-State guard Jatiana Chambers Saturday night and Dougherty beat Hapeville Charter 52.

“It was not our best game, defensively,” said Dougherty head coach Khadijah Ali. “But I’m glad we were able to come together and get the win.”

Chambers led the team with 30 points, 10 assists and six steals. Amiyah Jackson scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Grace Smith scored nine and grabbed nine rebounds. D’Asia Simmons added eight points and four steals.
