Deerfield-Windsor softball sweeps doubleheader against Westover

ALBANY – The Deerfield-Windsor Lady Knights finally found their way into the win column on Thursday afternoon. After starting the season 0-5, the Lady Knights swept a doubleheader against Westover, winning 14-2 and 21-9 in a dominant performance.
Westover jumped out to an early lead in the first game, scoring two runs in the opening inning. Singles by Amaiya Jones and Kimora McLeoud set the stage for the Lady Patriots. Savanna Adams hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the first run, and Morgan Polite doubled to center field to drive in the second.
Deerfield-Windsor quickly answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, but the game broke wide open in the third. The Lady Knights exploded for 11 runs, with singles from Jennings Currington, Olivia Allen, and Sadie Dowdy, combined with eight walks and two Westover errors. The lead proved too much for the Lady Patriots to overcome.
Millie Champion earned the win in the circle for Deerfield-Windsor, allowing five hits and two runs while walking one and striking out one.
Mikyah Lee took the loss for Westover, giving up five hits and 14 runs. She struggled with control, walking 17 batters, and striking out three. The Lady Patriots also committed three costly errors.
In the second game, Deerfield-Windsor wasted no time, scoring seven runs in the first inning. Key singles from Tamiyah Brown, Champion, and Hampton Rushton, along with five walks, helped the Lady Knights build an early advantage.
Westover fought back with seven runs of their own in the second inning. The Lady Patriots got two hits from Yukari Edwards, along with singles by Lee, Jones, and Adams. They also capitalized on three walks, a hit batter, and two errors to briefly take an 8-7 lead.
However, the Lady Knights quickly regained control. Deerfield-Windsor added two runs in the second inning and tacked on six more in both the third and fourth to comfortably secure the win.
Champion and Brown each pitched two innings for the Lady Knights in the second game.
Sydney Donaldson took the loss for Westover on the mound.
The Lady Knights will next face Terrell Academy on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Meanwhile, Westover will host Cairo on Thursday at Gordon Park, with the first pitch set for 5:30 p.m., before traveling to Peach County on Tuesday.
