ALBANY – The Dougherty Trojans hosted summer workouts with Mitchell County and Dooly County Tuesday at Dougherty High School and the competition left Dougherty Head Coach Uyl Joyner feeling optimistic.
“It was real good work for all three teams,” Joyner said. “I was happy to see our guys be able to mix it up well with veteran teams like Mitchell and Dooly. We are playing a lot of young guys – a lot of sophomores – and we mixed it up with them really well.”
Joyner was complimentary of both the offensive and defensive units of the Trojans.
“Our quarterback, David Burgess, did an excellent job,” Joyner said. “The offensive line did a nice job in preventing sacks and our receivers did a great job especially Jaryn Smith and Braylen Still. Still is always doing what he does but Smith looked better today.”
“Our defense is playing at a really good level,” the coach said. “We did a great job on defense today, especially Jaquavius Hallman, Keion Covin, and Jayden Owens who had a pick-six for us today.”
Mitchell County Head Coach Dondrial Pinkins and his team had a double workout on Tuesday. They opened the day at Dougherty in Albany and finished the day in Thomasville at Thomas Central.
“It was a long day but it was good,” said Pinkins. “Every day is an uphill battle but we are getting there. Our guys are working really hard and put their best out there.”
Dougherty will workout at Westover next week in a padded camp while Mitchell County will go to Atkinson County for a padded camp.
