Early County athletes earn Positive Athletes Awards

BLAKELY – The Early County School System (ECSS) is proud to announce the remarkable achievements of its student-athletes in the Positive Athlete Awards for the Southwest Georgia (SWGA) Region. For the tenth consecutive year, the Positive Athlete organization has recognized exceptional individuals who exemplify positivity, sportsmanship, and leadership both on and off the field.

This year, ECSS celebrates two outstanding individuals who have been honored with prestigious awards in their respective categories:

Evan Gregoire from Early County High School has been awarded the Positive Athlete

award for Boys Alternative Sport (Esports).

Coach Frank Killingsworth, Head Football Coach at Early County High School, has

been named the Boys Coach award recipient in the Southwest Georgia Region.

These accolades come as part of a larger recognition of student-athletes from 24 different boys’ and girls’ high school sports, two coaches, and Brooks County High School, who have been selected as the “Most Positive” in their categories.

The Positive Athlete program received over 6,800 nominations statewide, representing more than 420 public and private high schools. Founded by former Forest Park High School, University of Georgia, and Pittsburgh Steelers star, Hines Ward, along with local businessman Scott Pederson, Positive Athlete aims to promote positivity in youth sports by highlighting qualities such as an optimistic attitude, teammate encouragement, servant leadership, and more.

All award winners, including Gregoire and Coach Killingsworth, will be honored on their respective campuses. They now have the opportunity to vie for a state-wide award in their sport category, with the winners set to be announced in early May. The 2024 Georgia Positive Athlete Awards ceremony will take place in early June, where scholarship winners and state-wide award recipients will be recognized.
