Fantastic Fifteen: Terrell Academy’s Wes Peachey leads by example

DAWSON – As the Terrell Academy Eagles prepare for the upcoming football season, they’ll rely on the experience and leadership of senior lineman Wes Peachey. Standing at 5-foot-9 and weighing 216 pounds, Peachey is set to anchor both the offensive and defensive lines for the Eagles.

Peachey, the son of Becky and Matt Peachey of Shellman, is eagerly anticipating the start of the season.

“Friday night, when you step onto the field, there’s nothing like it,” Peachey said. “Being there with your buddies and working together gives me chills.”

As one of nine seniors on a young Terrell Academy team, Peachey is focused on excelling in his dual roles on the line and providing leadership for his teammates.

“I try to leave everything I have on the field,” Peachey said. “I want to lead by example because I want our team to give everything they’ve got.”

One of Peachey’s key responsibilities this fall will be protecting his younger brother, Bryse Peachey, who will be Terrell Academy’s starting quarterback as a sophomore.

Peachey smiled when asked about his brother playing quarterback.

“Sometimes I have to check him,” Peachey said. “But I’m also there to lift him up when he needs it. We’re just normal brothers, but we work well together.”

Peachey, who began playing football at an early age, will play right guard on the offensive line and defensive tackle on the defensive line.

“We have a very young team,” Peachey said. “But we work together really well and try to help each other out. I think we should do pretty well.”

Peachey admires the playing style of Carolina Panthers linemen Thomas Davis and Luke Kuechly, particularly their intensity and commitment on the field.

After high school, Peachey plans to pursue a career as a lineman in the utilities industry, attending technical school to work for a power company.

Peachey and the Eagles will kick off the season Friday night in Dawson against Southwest Georgia Academy, with the game set to begin at 8 p.m.
