ALBANY – The annual Junior College jamboree hosted by Lea Henry and Greg Manning brought 32 of the top junior college and technical college women’s basketball teams to Albany State University Saturday for an all day event where more than 100 college coaches and scouts from around the nation came to see if they could find more talent for their teams.

Schools including Albany Tech, South Georgia Tech, and others from Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi brought teams to compete in the preseason event. Games began at 9 a.m. with competition going on until 9 p.m.

Coaches and scouts from around the state and nation came from as far away as Chicago and Ohio to come to Albany to evaluate possible recruits. Included in the crowd of coaches was legendary Georgia women’s basketball coach Andy Landers who was helping with Kennesaw State.

Host Lea Henry said she got involved in the event 11 years ago while coaching at Darton State College. She said originally it was a fundraiser for the women’s team at Darton and she and Manning were later asked to run the event after Henry left the coaching position. It has been held each year since, except for 2020 during the pandemic.
