ALBANY — In a summer basketball showdown between Monroe and Lee County, two of Albany’s finest athletes locked horns, showcasing their competitive spirit. Despite the absence of high-stakes competition, both teams displayed a desire to come out on top during the matchup at Dougherty.
Neither team appeared to be in peak physical condition for the fast-paced game they both favored, but there was no denying their determination to secure victory.
Monroe’s Justin Burns, a rising senior, made an immediate impact, igniting the Tornadoes with his impressive performance. Bolstered by Burns’ hot start, Monroe established an early seven-point lead. However, Lee County’s rising junior, Ousmane Kromah, was quick to respond, shadowing Burns on the court. Led by Kromah and senior standout Josiah Parker, the Trojans fought back and clawed their way to an 18-17 halftime advantage.
As the second half unfolded, the Trojans managed to build a seven-point lead of their own. Yet, Burns came alive once again, showcasing his skills with emphatic slams and well-executed jump shots. His contributions proved instrumental in propelling the Golden Tornadoes to a hard-fought 45-41 victory over the Trojans.
