LEESBURG — The Lady Trojans of Lee County swept a match over Valwood Monday afternoon as they prepare to head into region playoffs against Veterans High School Wednesday afternoon near Warner Robins. The win ends a streak of nine losses and two ties in tournaments in the Atlanta area and South Carolina.
“As of right now, we are ranked in the region according to the games we have played against other competitors. So we are listed 3rd or 4th,” said Lee County Head Coach Tondra Davis.
Davis didn’t elaborate on how she thought the region playoffs would go but the region championship is planned for Lee County High School on October 10th.
During Monday’s match, the Lady Trojans jumped out to an early lead but Valwood bounced back and trailed only 11-1 before strong blocks from Kinsley Timmons, Savannah Singleton, and Kadance Flowers helped the Lady Trojans lead 15-10. Again, Valwood bounced back and tied the game at 17. After a time-out, with Lee County senior Kayln Taczy serving, the Lady Trojans pushed up to a 21-17 lead and won the set 25-20.
The second set was just as intense. Lee County grabbed an early lead but Valwood stormed back and took a 12-10 lead. Moments later Timmons nailed a rocket of a spike into the floor to tie the game at 12 each. But Valwood kept coming. From there the Lady Trojans pushed to a 16-12 lead and Valwood stopped for another time out but the Lady Trojans held on and claimed the second and third sets to win the match.
