Lee County’s Baron Hopson, Caleb McDowell lead area picks on GACA All-State Football Team

Lee County’s Baron Hopson and Caleb McDowell earned top awards on the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association All-State Football Team, released Monday by the organization.
Hopson was the Defensive Player of the Year and McDowell was the Offensive Player of the Year for Class AAAAAA South after helping the Trojans to a state runner-up finish. They were joined on the all-state list by teammates Jeffrey Bryan (offensive line), Tyrius Washington (tight end), Chauncey Magwood (wide receiver), Juwan Bailey (linebacker) and Jaron Willis (defensive back).
In Class AAAA South, Westover teammates Dacorien Hudson (offensive line) and Cameron Bergeron (defensive back) earned all-state honors, as did Worth County wide receiver Tayshaun Shipp in Class AA South. In Class A South, the all-state selections included Pelham’s Donevin Williams (offensive line), Mikiah Martin (defensive line) and Cameron Bailey (defensive back), Mitchell County’s Willie Williams (wide receiver) and Terrell County’s Detravious Laney (linebacker).
