ALBANY — Deerfield-Windsor senior running back Cole Jones scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns Friday night to help the Knights rally and defeat Westfield 33-29, preserving their unbeaten record at 3-0.

The Knights led 19-14 at halftime, but a bad snap on a punt in the third quarter gave the Hornets possession at the Deerfield-Windsor 38-yard line. Two plays later, sophomore Brock Johnson raced 22 yards into the end zone, giving Westfield the lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Jones had crossed the goal line earlier in the third quarter, but a holding penalty nullified that touchdown. However, he made up for it in the fourth quarter, scoring on a 15-yard run to regain the lead for the Knights. Westfield responded, but Jones broke free at the line of scrimmage later in the fourth quarter, sprinting down the right side of the field to score the game-winning touchdown. Jones finished the game with 240 rushing yards on 23 carries and three touchdowns.

“This was a total team effort,” said Deerfield-Windsor Head Coach Jake McCrae. “We overcame losing almost our entire secondary early in the game. Players stepped up and did everything asked of them. Our kids never hung their heads or lost their composure, and our coaches did a great job adjusting to everything the game threw at them.”

The Knights have now scored five touchdowns in each of the three games played this season. Led by Jones’ 240 rushing yards and three touchdows, Deerfield-Windsor racked up 463 yards on offense against Westfield. Quarterback Lane Sceals completed 12 of 25 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown. He also added a rushing touchdown.

The Knights will travel to Damascus next Friday night to face unbeaten Southwest Georgia (2-0). The Warriors defeated the Knights in Albany last season with a 42-27 victory. They continue to have a strong running game, with wins over Terrell Academy and Southwest Georgia STEM.

WESTOVER 56, WESTSIDE 31

MACON — A strong second half propelled the Westover Patriots to break open a close game Friday night, improving their season record to 3-0 under first-year head coach Corey Joyner.

The Patriots led 30-25 at halftime but outscored the Seminoles 26-6 in the second half for a decisive win.

“The team demonstrated perseverance in a great environment,” Joyner said. “The offensive line dominated the line the entire night, and the defense and special teams made plays when needed. It was a total team effort.”

The defense held Westside senior running back KD Iverson to 84 yards on 19 carries, while Westover’s Dominique Ball ran for 144 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries. Ball also scored three two-point conversions for the Patriots.

Westover quarterback Keyon Thomas completed seven of 12 passes for 132 yards and three touchdowns. Freshman Destin Bell caught two of those passes for 55 yards and a touchdown.

Jordan Lassiter led the Patriots’ defense with nine tackles, including one for a loss.

Westover has a bye next Friday night and will travel to Griffin the following week.

LEE COUNTY 55, TIFT COUNTY 7

TIFTON — On the second play from scrimmage, Lee County quarterback Weston Bryan connected with wide receiver Jaden Upshaw on a 76-yard touchdown pass, setting the tone for a rout that ended with the No. 4-ranked Trojans defeating Tift County 55-7 on the road.

Bryan connected with Upshaw for another touchdown pass in the second quarter and ran for three first-half touchdowns as the Trojans built a 34-7 halftime lead.

Ousmane Kromah broke free for a 67-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, while Damarian Scott and Canton Williams added two more touchdowns for the Trojans.

Bryan completed 16 of 20 pass attempts for 261 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran 10 times for 87 yards and three touchdowns. Upshaw led the receivers with seven catches for 187 yards and two touchdowns, while Kromah rushed for 144 yards on 11 carries.

After a week off, the Trojans will travel to Moultrie to face No. 3-ranked Colquitt County (2-1), who lost Friday night.

DOTHAN 49, MONROE 27

ALBANY — The Dothan Wolves brought a strong visiting crowd to Hugh Mills Stadium to watch their team defeat the Monroe Golden Tornadoes 49-27. Dothan is now 2-0, while the Tornadoes fall to 0-3.

However, Monroe Head Coach Lacey Herring found positives in the defeat.

“I thought our kids showed a lot of resilience and effort,” Herring said. “They faced a 7A team that is good, and it allowed us to see some things we need to fix, but it also showed our kids they can have major success against a larger opponent. We’ve progressively gotten better over the last three weeks, and I think we will be ready to go when region play begins.”

The Alabama 7A powerhouse took the opening drive and methodically moved down the field. After a three-and-out by the Tornadoes, the Wolves quickly added a second touchdown on a 52-yard reverse around the right side.

After Dothan pushed the score to 21-0 and threatened to score again, Monroe’s Eric Spann intercepted a Dothan pass, sparking the Tornadoes.

On the ensuing possession, quarterback Jordan Washington connected on three consecutive passes to move Monroe down the field, eventually bulldozing his way into the end zone on a one-yard run to put the Tornadoes on the board.

Washington finished the night with 292 passing yards, completing 17 of 32 attempts with three touchdown passes. He threw two touchdowns to Chase Dixon, who caught seven passes for 119 yards. Keyontae Hayes caught the other Tornado touchdown pass.

Dothan’s quarterback, Sam Broadaway, has ties to Albany. He is the son of Josh Broadaway, a PGA Tour player and Albany native. Josh’s mother, Sylvia, still lives in Albany.

Monroe will travel to Columbus Friday night for a matchup with Northside (2-0), who defeated Northgate of Newnan 22-0.

WORTH COUNTY 46, DOOLY COUNTY 3

SYLVESTER — The Dooly County Bobcats put the first points on the board with a field goal, but the rest of Friday night belonged to the Worth County Rams, who blew out the Bobcats 46-3.

Running back Tre Jones scored three touchdowns on just six carries, and quarterback Lyndon Worthy threw three touchdown passes to lead the rout. Worthy completed 16 of 18 passes for 263 yards.

Worthy’s touchdown passes went to two different receivers. He first connected with D’Ontae Fulton for a 32-yard touchdown and later in the second quarter hit Jayden Farley with a 22-yard pass. In the third quarter, he found Farley again for a 38-yard touchdown.

Farley caught four passes for 89 yards to lead the receivers, while Kaden Chester led the rushing attack with 107 yards on 10 carries.

The Rams now prepare to host No. 3-ranked Brooks County Friday night. Brooks County (1-1) defeated Cook 45-14 Friday night after a season-opening loss to Thomasville.
