LEESBURG — The Camden County Wildcats (11-1) knocked off No. 8-ranked Lee County (7-2) 66-55 Wednesday night in the first round of the Lee County Roundball Classic at Lee County High School.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter with an intense full-court pressure defense that created turnovers and quick points for the Wildcats. Trailing 37-23 late in the first half, Lee County’s Braylon Chaney hit a long three just before the halftime buzzer to put the score at 37-26 heading into the break.

Chaney hit another three in the third quarter and teammate Josiah Parker followed with a three as the Trojans closed the gap and tied the score 36-36 midway through the third quarter.

The teams were tied 48-48 heading into the final quarter, and Lee County had a brief lead, but after the teams battled to a 55-55 tie, the Wildcats picked up the final 11 points of the game with that stingy defense and easy shots.

Parker scored 20 points to lead the Trojans, while Chaney put in 16.

Four Wildcats scored in double figures — Elyiss Williams led with 16 points, Antwann Brown scored 14, Kaleb Murray put in 13 and Darius Thomas added 11.

The loss will move Lee County into the loser’s bracket for Thursday’s game.
