SYLVESTER – The Worth County Rams (3-1) smacked 12 hits and scored in all but one inning Thursday afternoon and Drake Jones pitched one-hit baseball for more than five innings to beat visiting Marion County (1-3) 11-1 at Pope Park in Sylvester.

Second baseman Owen Fletcher slapped three of those hits. He knocked in two runs and scored two runs. Left fielder Lalen Ellis knocked in two runs also and first baseman Christian McDonald belted a triple while Fletcher, Ellis, and Luke Rogers all doubled.

The Rams got out front in the bottom of the first inning when two runs scored on strikeout. Yes, a strikeout. Luke Smith singled for the first hit and Fletcher followed with a single to put runners on the corners with two out. Fletcher stole second base while Luke Rogers was batting. After an extended at-bat, Marion County lefthander Hunter Dodson got Rogers out on a swinging third strike but the ball got away from the catcher. Smith and Fletcher raced home and Rogers beat the throw to first to put two runs on the board.

Jones pitched five and one-third innings on the mound, giving up just one hit with no runs or walks. He struck out 10 batters. Fletcher pitched the final two-thirds of an inning.

Worth County’s next home game at Pope Park will be next Tuesday when Irwin County comes to town. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
