DAWSON – The Terrell Academy basketball teams made a strong statement in their season openers Monday night, earning decisive victories over Crisp Academy. The Lady Eagles cruised to a 58-17 win, while the Eagles followed suit with a commanding 63-32 victory in the nightcap.
The Lady Eagles took control early, building a 27-13 halftime lead. They came out even stronger in the third quarter, holding the Lady Wildcats scoreless as they extended their lead to 48-13. With the game firmly in hand, Head Coach Eric Israel emptied his bench, giving every player a chance to contribute.
Sally Masters led the Lady Eagles with 14 points, while Jenna DeBary added 13, and Natalie Oliver chipped in eight. In total, 10 Lady Eagles found their way into the scoring column, showcasing the team’s depth.
The boys’ game was similarly lopsided. Crisp Academy scored on their first possession but didn’t manage another field goal until late in the second quarter. By halftime, the Eagles had built a commanding 33-6 lead, effectively putting the game out of reach.
Head Coach Robert Bryant kept the pace fast, pushing his players to run the floor and tire out the Wildcats. The strategy worked, as the Eagles dominated throughout.
John Mark Irvin led the scoring effort with 15 points, and Jack Douglas contributed 10. Like the Lady Eagles, the boys also displayed their depth, with 11 different players scoring in the game.
Terrell Academy will look to continue its strong start as they host Southland on Tuesday in Dawson.
