MOULTRIE — The Westover Lady Patriots breezed past the Cook Lady Hornets 51-17 Tuesday afternoon as part of the Vereen Rehabilitation Shootout at Colquitt County High School in Moultrie.
The win improves the Lady Patriot record to 7-4 and comes one day after Westover lost a hard-fought match to Valdosta Monday by a 37-35 score.
Cook scored the first basket of the game, but after that, baskets were hard to come by for the Lady Hornets. In fact, the Lady HOrnets managed only five baskets the entire game and the other seven points came on free throws. Westover’s full-court pressure caused numerous turnovers and unforced errors as the Lady Patriots built a 30-9 halftime lead and continued to stretch the lead throughout the game.
La’Daja Caldwell and Jahnilya Benton each scored 13 points to lead the Lady Patriots while Jada Landers put in 12.
Kasey Manning led the Lady Hornets (1-8) with six points.
Westover will open region play on Jan. 4 when the defending region champion Cairo Syrupmakers come to Albany.
