Worth County football team, quarterback Chip Cooper off to hot start

Worth County’s football team, in particular quarterback Chip Cooper, got the 2021 high school season off to a great start last week.

Cooper, a junior, completed 18 of 36 passes for 225 yards and five touchdowns, in addition to rushing 18 times for 148 yards, in a 35-28 victory over Turner County. He is coming off a sophomore season when he completed 88 of 146 passes for 1,184 yards and 10 TDs, and rushed for 234 yards and four scores.

Worth’s Owen Hancock caught six passes for 94 yards and a TD in the win over Turner, and Mackenzie Daniels had five catches for 59 yards and three TDs. Parker Weaver added a 33-yard TD catch.

The Rams, in their second season under head coach Phillip Ironside, host Mitchell County on Friday. They are in search of their first winning season since 2016.
